High Options Volume by Strike
SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY[2]) tops list with its SPY APR Week4 132 Put down .83 to .10 on volume of 69,522 contracts. The SPY APR Week4 133 Calls and 133 Puts both trade a little more than 41,000 contracts.
The CBOE Volatility Index (CBOE: VIX[3]) May11 15 and Jun11 18 Puts both trading higher, with more than 50,000 contracts. The May 15 Put is up .10 to .15, while the Jun 18 trades up .25 to 1.00.
The iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treasury Bond (NYSE: TLT[4]) has three strikes in the top 10 this morning. The TLT Jun11 101 Call, TLT Sep11 101 Call and the TLT Sep11 98 Call all doing more than 50,000 contracts. The TLT is down .29 to 92.99.
Bank of America (NYSE: BAC[5]) is top trading equity with its BAC Jul11 14 Call and the BAC Jul11 13 Call trading more than 43,000 contracts. Both are up .01.
Roy Briggs, on the advisory services side of Stutland Volatility Group, has been watching DISH Network (NASDAQ: DISH[6]) this morning as it, first, rose with the market, then, fell like a stone “after a story on a court ruling with TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO[7]) hit the tape.” Ruling went TiVo’s way.
Briggs notes that before the story there was heavy buying in the DISH May 24 Calls, nearly 13,000 contracts. DISH now down .10 to 23.77.
Stutland also watching Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT[8]). “The AMAT July 18 calls traded 5,000 in a block. The stock is up about 4% today but those are out of the money. Markets are tight with 1 cent bid/ask spread,” said Briggs.
Major Stock Trading Volume Movers
Investors like TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO[7]) after the court ruling, sending it up 2.82, or nearly 34%, to 11.19. Volume of 33.7 million shares. TiVo applauded a US federal appeals court ruling in its intellectual property case against EchoStar and Dish Network. TiVo claims this clears the way for it to receive “substantial damages” from the ruling.
Utility DPL Inc. (NYSE: DPL[9]) being taken over by AES Corp (NYSE: AES[10]) for enterprise value of $4.7 billion and trading nearly 50 million shares, at 30.04.
Lot’s happening in Quepasa Corp. (AMEX: QPSA[11]), up .71 to 6.95 on 2 million shares. Social networker targeting Latinos yesterday intro’d ‘Wonderful City’ game with a city building theme.

Stocks/Underlying – Big Daily Change in Option Volume
May not be on most folks radar but the option volume rose in this company by more than 21,000% this morning. Turkish mobile service provider Turkcell IIetisim Hizmetleri (NYSE: TKC[13]) is up 2.25% to 14.98. Will refer to as just Turkcell from now on. It traded 3734 options. Quick check of the chains shows 3689 trade in the TKC Oct 15 Calls with an open interest of 76.
Blackboard (NASDAQ: BBBB[14]) busy again after reports yesterday of possible takeover. 6721 options trade as stock drops 1.83 to 46.08.
Natural gas firm Williams Companies (NYSE: WMB[15]) sees 85,541 options trade, a rise of 1,057%,
Stocks – High Put/Call Ratio
Topping the field here is Ecolab (NYSE: ECL[16]) with a Put/Call ratio of 262.53 as stock rises .13 to 51.50. Late yesterday investor bought 19,000 ECL May 50 Puts and sold same number of ECL May 45 Puts, according to Bloomberg. Nearly 40,000 puts traded yesterday compared with 150 calls. ECL reports earnings April 26.
O’Reilly Automotive (NASDAQ: ORLY[17]) again hits the list with a P/C of 102.27 as stock rises 1.05 to 57.69. OptionMONSTER has reported a number of large put sales in ORLY recently.
Stocks/Underlying – High Option Volume
SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY[18]) goes over 1 million contracts as it rises 1.67 to 132.98. S&P 500 Index Options (CBOE: SPX[19]) rises in tandem, or other way around, up 16.53 to 1329.15.
The CBOE Volatility Index (CBOE: VIX[3]) sees options trading of 350,526 contracts. VIX down .60 to 15.23. And iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV[20]) trades nearly 350,000 as it rises 1.16 to 44.16.
Intel (NASDAQ: INTC[21]) up to 21.20 and trades 204,969 options following solid earnings. Bank of America (NYSE: BAC[5]) displacing Citigroup as day-in, day-out volume leader, trading 157,000 options. Stock down again to 12.29.
