Green Mountain Coffee Perks Up on Continued Keurig Success

Real America Index[1]Vermont’s Green Mountain Coffee (NASDAQ:GMCR[2]) continues to perk up profits, with gains of 5.6% today. There’s no blockbuster news today, per se, just continued reports about the big success GMCR has seen with its Keurig K-Cup brewing system. News of success with Dunkin’ Donuts branded single-brew cups seems to be heating up Green Mountain stock in early trading.

Green Mountain is the best-performing stock on the InvestorPlace.com Real America Index today. Other top performers include:

Wisconsin’s Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HOG[3]) is up 3.7% today on little news, but a technical sign that is bullish for the stock. HOG crossed over its 10-day moving average and seems to be poised for another leg up.

Maryland’s Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT[4]) is up 3.4% on news of a private, secure cloud computing solution it has named “BlackCloud.” The name is sinister and the prospects are very encouraging to investors.

As for the worst performers in the Real America Index today, they are as follows:

Michigan’s Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F[5]) is off -3.9% on news that the automaker is expecting reduced second quarter earnings due to higher commodity costs and structural expenses.

Wyoming’s Double Eagle Petroleum (NASDAQ:DBLE[6]) is off -4.4% today despite a spike in crude oil prices. The small-cap energy firm is one of the more volatile components of the index and can move on little news.

Idaho’s Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU[7]) is the biggest loser, off -6.8% today as part of the latest slide in the semiconductor sector. Micron stock is down 20% over the past month as fears over weak consumer demand have hurt the sector.

Broadly speaking, the Real America Index is neck-and-neck with the S&P 500 today. The RAI is up 0.17% vs. the S&P 500’s 0.18% gain. The InvestorPlace.com Real America Index is outperforming the Nasdaq’s -0.29% loss and is lagging the 0.54% gain of the Dow Jones Industrials.
