Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL[1] news items for today.

iPhone 5 Due Out in Fall 2012: It looks like the iPhone 4S may have broken for good the trend of releasing new iPhones in the spring. Where previous models of the iPhone were typically released during the second quarter, the iPhone 4S hit the market in October 2011. According to Monday reports at Macotakara, Mac Rumors, and iMore, the iPhone 5 will likely follow suit. Multiple sources inside Apple’s supply chain suggest that the next iteration of Apple’s device will hit the market in either September or October of 2012. Previous rumors hinted that the iPhone 5 would release in June. The iPhone 5 is said to be radically different from previous models of iPhone in terms of shape, and might even sport a curved form to better fit the shape of the user’s head.

Apple Plans App Store, iTunes Overhauls for 2012: Apple will redesign iTunes, its digital music, movie, television, and app store, for the first time in three years, according to a report at 9 to 5 Mac. The new design is said to emphasize new easy-to-understand interactive features. The Cupertino, Calif., company is already talking with music labels and other entertainment companies about the new service, which is described as a “more engaging experience.” The redesigned music store will likely be done over to compete with newer streaming services like Spotify. As for the App Store wing of iTunes, the redesign is said to be geared toward improving accessibility. It’s currently difficult for users to sift through the hundreds of thousands of apps in the store, and a new design could make it both easier to find what you’re looking for and easier to discover new apps you haven’t heard of.

Amazon Preparing New 10-inch Kindle Fire: A Monday report by Digitimes said that Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN[2]) is ready to enter the second phase of its war with Apple’s iPad. The report said that manufacturing partner Foxconn (PINK:FXCNY[3]), which recently announced that it was raising wages for its workers, has been awarded the contract to begin producing a 10-inch model of the Kindle Fire tablet sometime during the second quarter of this year. Amazon is said to have already sold around 4 million of the 7-inch Kindle Fire since it was released last November.
