5 Hot Autos From the Geneva Motor Show

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show wraps up today, and countless cool cars got the spotlight treatment. Many of the flashiest showings unfortunately won’t hit streets, though a couple production models got some love. Here’s a look at five hot autos from the Geneva Auto Show.

Chevy Volt: General Motors (NYSE:GM[1]) Chevy Volt earned Geneva’s car of the year honors for 2012. The plug-in hybrid also won North American Car of the Year for 2011, but low sales continue to dog the vehicle. Despite substantial governmental rebates, the 94 MPG-e (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent) Volt continues to disappoint in showrooms, and GM recently announced it would suspend production of the hybrid[2] for five weeks because of low demand.

Mercedes-Benz A Class: Luxury, just miniature. The A Class wowed showgoers[3] with its surprising roominess and accommodations that rivaled its bigger brothers, according to Autoblog. Just don’t expect a lot of room in the trunk.

Hyundai i-Oniq: While its Elantra small car was the star of America[4], Hyundai’s plug-in hybrid i-Oniq concept drew eyes in Switzerland. The i-Oniq uses a three-banger gas engine as well as an electric motor and can zoom up to 145 mph, but it isn’t expected to ever see the sun.

Range Rover Evoque Concept: The Range Rover Evoque already picked up 2012 North American SUV honors[5], but its concept version turned heads in Geneva. The two-door version of the small SUV featured a convertible roof, a la the Nissan (PINK:NSANY[6]) Rogue Convertible. Sadly, the Evoque convertible isn’t expected to hit real roads.

Lamborghini Aventador J: A gorgeous[7] piece of work. 700 horses. Revolutionary body. An open top you can’t even close … And according to CNN Money[8], there’s only one in the world. The lucky buyer swooped in at just under $3 million.
