Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL news items for Friday:
New iPad Retails Today: With the past two weeks’ anticipation of the next-gen iPad debut running at fever pitch, Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) newest tablet finally went on sale today. Retailing at Apple Stores upon their 8 a.m. opening, the New iPad is expected to sell an unprecedented 1 million units today. The iPad has apparently undergone design renovation — with features to include augmented processing speed, pixel density above many HD televisions, and computability with wireless LTE. While there has been speculation surrounding the possible rise of tablet competitors Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), and apparent newcomer Nokia (NYSE:NOK), the New iPad’s debut will likely bolster Apple’s already overwhelming market share.
iPhone 5 Might Be Waterproof, Recharge Remotely: In the wake of the New iPad’s retail debut, speculation is building that Apple is looking toward redesigning other mainstays. According to International Business Times, there is growing evidence that Apple will overhaul its smartphone much in the way it recalibrated its tablet. Among external alterations are a larger screen, improved retina display and water-resistant nanotech coating. But the most dramatic expectations surround renovation of the iPhone’s internal design, which include the addition of inductive wireless charging — allowing Apple’s smartphone to recuperate battery life without plugs or cables.
Apple Might Relocate $304M Facility: Bloomberg reports that Apple might spurn Texas as the location for its planned megacomplex, and instead construct the facility in Phoenix. After a meeting with the Phoenix city council, Apple’s economic growth director Kevin Johns asserted there is serious consideration that the Apple center might relocate to Arizona, rescinding previously stated intentions to build in Austin. The new facility is projected to create 3,600 jobs within a decade of its opening — upon news of location dispute, Austin’s city council announced plans to vote March 22 on the extension of a new $8.6m construction grant.
