While there’s been an unfortunate bedbug resurgence in the past two years, apparently America’s least-favorite cushion nuisance has also decided to intervene in our travel plans.
As PR Newswire reports, Rollins Inc. (NYSE:ROL) pest control subsidy Orkin has just released a list of the top American cities by bedbug infestation. The list came on the heels of Orkin reporting a 33.6% increase in requests for bedbug removal in 2011 above that performed in 2010. Considering the recent jump in infestations, here’s the top fifteen municipalities to watch out for:
While bedbugs have been steadily reemerging across the U.S., apparently California is seeing a particularly sharp uptick in infestations. Los Angeles jumped from 25th on the list in 2010 directly to the 5th most heavily infested metro area, and the San Francisco region went from 47th in 2010 straight to 12th last year.
Bed Bugs are much more commonly found in hotels and transitory housing, where they’re also less likely to be removed immediately than they would be in a single-owner private residence. The press released emphasized that while outright preventing infestation is difficult, early pest control is the most effective way to prevent bedbugs from become a much greater nuisance.
