Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher is also an active investor and promoter of hot tech start-ups. And his latest investment[1] is in a company called Dwolla.
Funny enough, the startup isn’t based in Silicon Valley. Actually, it’s in the seemingly nontech city of Des Moines, Iowa. But perhaps it’s a quiet environment for coders to get more done, right?
Dwolla has developed a mobile payment system, which is focused on providing lower costs for merchants. However, the competition is fierce. The company must deal with rivals like Intuit (NASDAQ:INTU[2]), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG[3]) and eBay’s (NASDAQ:EBAY[4]) PayPal.
But Kutcher’s involvement should be a huge help. His high profile — as well as his prolific tweeting (he has over 10 million followers) — should get much exposure for Dwolla.
