Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL news items for today:
Analyst: Q2 iPhones Sales to Beat Estimates, iPads Come Up Short. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is forecasting that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will announce second-quarter 2012 sales of 33 million iPhones and 12 million iPads, according to Apple Insider. Munster’s numbers differ from the consensus estimate of Wall Street analysts, which predicts 30.5 million iPhones and 13 million iPads sold during the quarter. He also projects Mac sales of 4.3 million, a little less than other analysts who anticipate 4.4 million Macs sold.
French Designer: Revolutionary Apple Product in Eight Months. Noted French designer Philippe Starck told French newspaper Le Figaro that he has been collaborating with Apple on a “revolutionary” new product. In the interview with Le Figaro – English translations of which are carried by 9to5Mac — Starck declined to provide details, citing Cupertino’s “religious cult of secrecy,” but noted that the product would debut in eight months. Starck said that for seven years he had visited now-deceased Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs “once a month in Palo Alto.” He said: “We liked to talk all things interesting.” 9To5Mac noted that Starck has designed a number of products already in the Apple store and that it was unclear what sort of new product he was referencing. However, the eight-month time frame would tie in with Munster’s prediction of an Apple-branded TV to be unveiled in December.
German Court Upholds Ban on iCloud, MobileMe Push Emails. A regional court in Mannheim, Germany, has sustained a lower court ruling that prohibits Apple from providing email synchronization for its iCloud and MobleMe services in Germany, according to Dow Jones Newswires. The ban stems from an ongoing patent infringement lawsuit brought against Apple by Motorola Mobility Holdings (NYSE:MMI). The higher court awarded unspecified damages to Motorola, Dow Jones Newswires reported, but adjourned without issuing a ruling on mobile communication standards requested by Motorola.
