Not content to merely provide sleek modernist furniture and storage options, IKEA is introducing a new line of consoles — with a TV built in. Of course, you’ll have to assemble the console, though not the TV, yourself.
The company’s Uppleva line of all-in-one consoles feature a large-screen LED TV, in four sizes from 24 inches to 46 inches, speakers, a CD and DVD player, and — of course — an Internet connection, all encased in wooden cabinetry, according to the Washington Post.
Units will start around $955.
IKEA partnered with Chinese electronics firm TCL Multimedia to produce the TVs for the Uppleva line. Still, the Swedish firm’s designers are responsible for finding clever ways to hide the mass of cables required to connect all the electronic components while providing a touch of Ikea’s simple style.
Naturally, you’ll also be able to plug your iPod into the furniture.
Keeping with its emphasis on simplicity, Uppleva furniture comes with a single remote control that operates all the entertainment components.
The console’s exterior has been designed to permit remote control signals to pass through so that the components, other than the TV, remain concealed.
The Uppleva line debuts in Sweden and other European countries in June and will be available worldwide by the early next year.
