Pinterest, the fastest-growing social media site, is the latest recipe-exchange hub on the Internet. Foodies and home cooks alike are using recipe “pins” to dish up dinner. Sam’s Club (NYSE:WMT[1]) is a recent benefactor of this trend, said Supermarket News[2].
During a recent panel presentation at the American Bakers Association Convention, Shawn Baldwin, Sam’s Club senior vice president of Fresh Freezer Cooler, shared that a recipe[3] featured on its website that went viral on Pinterest. The simple appetizer — asparagus and a few cheeses wrapped in Pillsbury (NYSE:GIS[4]) crescent rolls — was pinned by numerous people who use the popular social media platform.
“If you really want to make an impact, get a recipe on Pinterest that uses one of your products,” Baldwin said. “It’s amazing how quick you can do it. You would see a bump in your sales. It’s a spot everyone’s looking to for entertaining.”
The membership warehouse club isn’t the only company getting a boost from the online picture post-board site that encourages users to share anything and everything they love. Those looking for cooking advice on Pinterest can find hundreds of recipes from food manufacturers like Kraft (NYSE:KFT[5]) and Hershey (NYSE:HSY)[6].
Some companies, like Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ:WFM[7]), have created their own place[8] on Pinterest. The natural-foods supermarket chain manages 39 boards showcasing its myriad recipes, products and tips.
