Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ:GMCR) gained notoriety earlier this week.
The coffee company most known for its Keurig single-serve coffee maker and vast assortment of K-Cups won the title “Coffee Brand of the Year,” according to the 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend study. Green Mountain beat out several coffee legends, including Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), J.M. Smucker‘s (NYSE:SJM) Folgers and Millstone brands, and Caribou Coffee (NASDAQ:CBOU). Incidentally, Starbucks didn’t even rank among the top seven this year.
“Green Mountain Coffee is by no means the best known coffee brand, but it is clear that those who do know it, love it,” said Robert Fronk, executive vice president at Harris Interactive. Fronk suggests that Green Mountain’s commitment to corporate social responsibility may be one reason why the brand garnered high poll results.
Here’s a look at the coffee companies that made Harris’ top seven list.
- Green Mountain Coffee
- Folgers Ground Coffee
- Dunkin’ Donuts Ground Coffee (Dunkin’ Donuts, NASDAQ:DNKN)
- Millstone Ground Coffee
- Eight O’Clock Ground Coffee
