VMware (NYSE:VMW) has some of the world’s best programmers. Still, the company is not immune from hackers.
The company recently was the target of a theft of its source code for its products for 2003 to 2004. The hacker appears to have gotten it by gaining access to the systems of the China Electronics Import & Export Corporation.
The source code was even posted on the Internet.
However, VMware did not seem to be too concerned — according to the company, the theft likely will have little or no impact on its customers. Besides, VMware routinely allows access of its code to its partners, as it is necessary to allow for integration.
Still, the hack should sound off an alarm, considering it shows vulnerabilities in VMware’s security system.
