AmEx and Zynga Team Up on Rewards Card

Card users can earn virtual cash by spending real-world money

If you’re addicted to Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA) games like FarmVille, Poker or CastleVille, then American Express (NYSE:AXP) has a new prepaid card to help out. As you spend money on it, you’ll earn credits for in-game currency.

This is part of American Express’s efforts to expand Serve, which is a payments platform that goes beyond affluent customers. The idea is forthe Zynga card to help attract a younger demographic.

But getting the card will take some work. Users have to visit the Serve farm on FarmVille and plant a money tree. They will then fill out a form and get a card in the mail. It will be tied to the Green Dot (NASDAQ:GDOT) system.

For American Express, the Zynga deal could be a nice opportunity. After all, the social gaming site attracts a whopping 292 million monthly users.
