Speaking at the Business Insider Startup 2012 conference in New York, Arianna Huffington told interviewer Henry Bloget that private equity firms had indeed expressed interest in acquiring the Huffington Post from AOL.
The comments follow whispers that Huffington had approached AOL herself with financial backing to buy the Post, Business Insider noted.
She joked about starting a campaign to raise $1 billion, the amount allegedly demanded by AOL in the purchase rumors.
AOL purchased the Huffington Post in 2011 for $315 million.
Huffington added that while approaches had been made to AOL, the talks had gone nowhere.
