In his letter to shareholders, Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook has a social mission. It is really more than just being a company. So this week Facebook added a feature that’s in keeping with this idea. That is, you can indicate that you’re an organ donor on your Timeline as well as tell the story about why you did it.
It’s a great idea — and likely to have a big impact. With over 900 million monthly active users, Facebook will help to encourage many people to become organ donors.
Consider that in the U.S., more than 114,000 people are waiting for transplants of hearts, kidneys and livers. About 18 of them die every day.
