Ferrari owners are not necessarily a group that one might naturally think of as being fuel or environmentally conscious.
After all, if you’re willing to spend $250,000 on a car, you’re probably not to the sort who quibbles about rising prices at the pump. And a Ferrari is hardly the emblem of green living.
Nevertheless, Ferrari will soon join the ranks of automakers putting out hybrid models.
Company chairman Luca di Montezemolo that the new Ferrari Enzo hybrid will debut by the end of the year. The Enzo hybrid will feature a V-12 engine with an electric hybrid assist system, delivering 920 horsepower.
The Christian Science Monitor says the Enzo will be the only vehicle able to challenge the performance of Porsche’s 918 Spyder.
Ferrari says claims that its hybrid engine will cut emissions from the Enzo hybrid by up to 40%.
