Supermodel Kate Upton is going uptown. The 19-year-old beauty who is most known for her work with Sports Illustrated — she’s also the great-granddaughter of Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR) co-founder Frederick Upton — purchased a $25,000 ticket to attend the Costume Institute Gala Benefit, affectionately called the Met Ball.
Tickets to the highly visible charity event event are not easy to snag, and the guest list includes celebrities and members of the fashion elite such as Donna Karan, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and Nina Dobrev.
Every guest must meet the approval of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, The New York Post reports. An unidentified source told the paper that Upton arranged a meeting with Wintour to secure her spot on the list.
“She told Anna she would really like to attend,” the source said. “Then she offered to pay for her own ticket. Kate then whipped out her checkbook and paid the $25,000 for her seat. Anna took the check on the spot.”
The inaugural Met Ball was held in 1948. Past co-chairs include Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Patricia Taylor Buckley. Event proceeds help fund the annual expenses of the Costume Institute.
