7.85-Inch iPad Will Launch in Q4 With Thin-Film Technology: Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL[3]) will introduce a 7.85-inch iPad during the fourth quarter[4], DigiTimes says. The smaller iPad will use “G/F2” thin-film touch technology from Nissha Printing and TPK to produced screens one layer thinner than found in current iPads. The smaller iPad will ship between 7 million and 10 million units this year, DigiTimes says.

No Flexible Display for Next iPhone: Apple will not deploy a flexible screen[5] on its next-generation iPhone, says 9to5Mac. Rumors of a flexible display for the new iPhone, widely expected to debut later this year, started in Korea and likely stem from translation errors relating to comments made by Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun. While it’s likely that Apple is experimenting with flexible displays, lingering quality issues and its financial commitment to the current retina displays in iPhones and iPads make it highly improbable that Apple would ditch that technology in favor of unproven flexible displays, 9to5Mac says.

iPhone Sales Sliding as Anticipation Builds for New iPhone: An analyst with Sterne Agee says Apple is cutting orders[6] for its current iPhone models by as much as 25% as consumers hold off on purchases in advance of the next iPhone’s release, Apple Insider says. The analyst forecasts current-quarter iPhone sales at between 26 million and 28 million, well below other analysts’ estimates. The next-generation iPhone will be unveiled in a “September-October time frame,” Apple Insider reports.
