European aircraft manufacturing group Airbus is planning to bring the production of one of its popular jets to the U.S.
Airbus, a subsidiary of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), already makes seats and other equipment for its A380 and A350 jets in Mobile, Alabama.
That plant will soon be joined by a much larger facility that will assemble the company’s popular A320 airplane, the Associated Press reports.
Airbus is expected to announce plans for the new manufacturing center next week. The company has previously indicated a desire to expand its manufacturing operations in the U.S., with a focus on southern states.
This would mark the first Airbus aircraft manufacturing encroachment on the homeland of global rival Boeing (NYSE:BA).
