A man who allegedly attempted to steal clothing and body wash from a Covina, Calif. Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT[1]) died after being detained in the store, Covina police told The Sacramento Bee[2].

An autopsy is being conducted. Wal-Mart spokeswoman Dianna Gee told the Bee that there are many other “unknowns” at this time, including cause of death. She also stated that “the loss of life is a sad situation.”

According to police, they found the suspect restrained by store security in what seemed to be medical distress. The alleged theft reportedly fought with the security department after they chased him down in the parking lot. The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

This instance is just one of many bizarre cases[3] that have been linked to Wal-Mart[4] this year.
