The bidding on an auction to have dinner with Warren Buffett reached $510,100 on eBay on Friday.
Part of an annual charity fundraiser benefiting the Glide Foundation, the auction ends at 10:30pm on Friday night. By mid-afternoon on Friday, 94 people had bid on the dinner for eight at New York’s Smith & Wollensky steakhouse
The founder of investment company Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A, BRK.B) has participated in the annual fundraiser for 12 years, raising $11 million for the charity, according to Bloomberg.
The winner of the previous two auctions, Ted Weschler, later joined Berkshire Hathaway.
The iconic billionaire was attracted to Glide Foundation by his wife. He praised the charity which serves homeless and poor individuals from a San Francisco church as a institution that “really gave up on nobody.”
Buffett is 81-years-old. Some have speculated that he is no longer personally directing all of Berkshire Hathaway investment decisions. He has indicated plans to donate his vast wealth to charitable causes when he dies.
