On Sunday, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) launched a new app for Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS called “Find Friends Nearby.” But yesterday, the social network suddenly pulled the app. The company provided no explanation for the move.
With “Find Friends Nearby,” a user could locate any Facebook members close by and then invite them to be friends. The app seemed to have lots of potential of becoming a way to generate more advertising dollars.
No doubt, there are several possibilities for why Facebook pulled the app. One is that it needed more tweaking, which is very common in the mobile world.
Another reason is that the app was really too controversial. Might it be used for stalking?
Oh, and it also looks like there may be a dispute with a developer that has created a similar app, called Friendthem. The company is now exploring legal options.
