FierceWireless Picks the Most Innovative Wireless Startups for 2012

There’s no lack of innovation in the space

So far, the big winners in the mobile space include Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). While other large players struggle to get a bigger piece of the pie — like Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) — the major beneficiaries instead might be startups.

So, FierceWireless has put together a list of 15 companies to keep on your radar.

One interesting pick is Viddy, which is called the “Instagram for video.” That is, a user can take a quick video, add special effects and music and then share it with friends, such as on Facebook (NASDAQ:FB). The app is attracting about 1 million users per day.

Then there is Liquipel, which has a coating that makes a smartphone water-resistant. The process costs $60. Given that people essentially cannot live without their smartphones, the technology could see huge demand.

Also featured is ParcelGenie, which allows for users to send small gifts. They range in price from $5 to $8 apiece. So far, the company has focused on Europe. but now it is poised to make a play for the U.S.
