Computer memory storage maker Fusion-io (NYSE:FIO[1]) announced that it will partner with Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO[2]) to provide its flash memory technology for use in Cisco servers[3].

The deal represents Fusion-io’s first original equipment manufacturer partnership with Cisco, IDG News noted.

Fusion-io shares rose more than 3% in Tuesday morning trading, exceeding $18 a share.

By adopting Fusion-io’s ioMemory technology, Cisco joins other network technology manufacturers, including Dell (NASDAQ:DELL[4]), IBM (NYSE:IBM[5]) and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ[6]), in offering flash memory for servers.

The Fusion-io enhanced servers will be unveiled at the Cisco Live conference in San Diego later this week.

Flash memory storage can be accessed more rapidly than conventional solid state disk storage, boosting computing speed.

Fusion-IO has produced subsystems for use with HP, IBM and Dell servers.

Under its agreement with Cisco, Fusion-IO will produce memory modules for Cisco’s B-Series Unified Computing System (UCS) blade servers, which are the third ranked servers in the market.
