Move over Superman, there’s a new hero in town and he’s a bit nutty.
Kellogg (NYSE:K) has introduced a superhero to save the world from boring breakfasts and help the company hawk its Crunchy Nut cereal. The hero, named The Crunchy Nut, dons a tight yellow costume complete with a spoon-adorned mask, boots, arm guards and a flowing red cape. He also carries a wooden honey dipper and a bottle of milk.
The cereal giant is relying heavily on social media outlets and guerrilla marketing tactics to promote the new campaign. According to its Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) page, “The Crunchy Nut is here to bring the fun back to breakfast.”
The Crunchy Nut has about 184,000 Facebook “likes” and only 333 Twitter followers. Those stats aren’t particularly impressive, but since the campaign is fairly new, they aren’t dreadful either. The Crunchy Nut still has time to whip up a fan frenzy.
Since he doesn’t resemble Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth or Mark Ruffalo, The Crunchy Nut might not draw as many women to the cereal as Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Avenger’s brought to the box office. But, since a sense of humor often makes up for lack of muscle tone, there’s still hope for the masked nut.
