It appears the folks at Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) who were responsible for planning the company’s presentation at last week’s Norwegian Developers Conference in Oslo thought they were booking an act for a frat party and not a corporate conference. Or perhaps they simply didn’t review the lyrics from the controversial number prior to them being flashed upon video screens. Regardless how it happened, a skit featuring dancing girls and crude song lyrics occurred at the event, and a video of the performance went viral.
Unfortunately for Microsoft, the event has received more attention for the “Azure Girls” than it has for its cloud computing platform — the intended highlight of the conference. The song’s lyrics — which included the words “MICRO and SOFT don’t apply to my penis” — were part of the show.
One attendee tweeted, “For those not here, we had flashing disco lights, bad lyrics about penis, disco beats and dancing azure girls, so cringeworthy,” NewsCore reported.
A video of the performance was quickly posted on YouTube, which swayed Microsoft into making a speedy apology.
“This week’s Norwegian Developer’s Conference included a skit that involved inappropriate and offensive elements and vulgar language. We apologize to our customers and our partners and are actively looking into the matter,” Microsoft wrote.
