There’s no such thing as a safe cigarette — unless you count the fake variety that are often used in movies. But the world’s largest tobacco company is planning to sell as “safer” cigarette by 2017, Bloomberg reports.
Phillip Morris (NYSE:PM) is working on three cigarettes under its popular Marlboro brand that are intended to be less harmful than traditional cigarettes. A cigarette that heats tobacco instead of burning is ready for clinical testing, the company said.
PM shares closed down more than 3% on Thursday.
