Philip Morris to Introduce Lower-Risk Cigarettes by 2017

There’s no such thing as a safe cigarette — unless you count the fake variety that are often used in movies. But the world’s largest tobacco company is planning to sell as “safer” cigarette by 2017, Bloomberg[1] reports.

Phillip Morris (NYSE:PM[2]) is working on three cigarettes under its popular Marlboro brand that are intended to be less harmful than traditional cigarettes. A cigarette that heats tobacco instead of burning is ready for clinical testing, the company said.

PM shares closed down more than 3% on Thursday.
