Charlie Sheen’s hot-headed ways have made big headlines over the past several years. He even has a new show called Anger Management, in which he ironically plays the part of a therapist. However, it’s Sheen’s recent act of philanthropy to America’s armed forces that has turned the media’s spotlight back on the actor.
Sheen announced Monday that he’ll donate 1% of profits from Anger Management to the USO. He hasn’t put a cap on the amount, but did promise the organization a minimum of $1 million — which constitutes the largest single donation the organization has ever received.
“It’s an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us,” Sheen told The Associated Press.
The USO plans to use Sheen’s donation as part of an ongoing campaign to boost the morale of injured troops.
During the course of his career, Sheen has starred in dozens of movies and television programs. His first major role in a Hollywood blockbuster came in 1986 when he portrayed Chris Taylor in the Vietnam War film Platoon.
