If you walked into a guest room at the Damson Dene Hotel — a scenic, friendly lodging option in the Lake District of northwest England — in the past, the Bible was available for your reading pleasure. Recently, though, the owner decided it was inappropriate[1] to have a religious book in the rooms.
The replacement?
The popular, erotic (and apparently more hotel appropriate) novel “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Quite a change of pace, I’d say.
The owner insists the switch was inspired by the novel’s popularity[2] and was meant to be fun, but the hotel still has received some complaints.
If popularity is indeed the goal, the highly-anticipated, steamy serial novel[3] “Because You Are Mind” could be an appealing choice for a bedside book, once the “Fifty Shades of Grey” fad dies down.
Other hotels have made similar moves toward modernity, as some swapped the hotel-room Bible[4] for Amazon‘s (NASADAQ:AMZN[5]) Kindle.
But don’t worry, the Bible is still be available for guests at the Damson Dene front desk if the dirty romance genre isn’t their thing.
