Big September for Apple: Unnamed insiders says that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL[2]) will unveil its next-generation iPhone, the iPad Mini and a updated iPod Nano[3] at an event on September 12, iMore reports. The new iPhone will become available to consumers just one week later on September 19. The dates on which the iPad Mini and iPod Nano will hit store shelves were not stated. A variety of sources have indicated either a September of October launch date for the iPad Mini and new iPhone. Recent rumors from Asia say that the new iPhone has already completed test production runs at Chinese factories.

Apple Received Unfair Advantage in New York: A state investigation into Apple’s bid to build an Apple Store in Manhattan’s iconic Grand Central Terminal finds that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was biased toward the company[4], the New York Post reports. The investigation says that rival bidders were only given 30 days to submit bids for the location even though Apple had been in talks with the MTA for two years prior to the start of the bidding process. Apple was ultimately awarded 23,000 square feet of retail space in the terminal. MTA officials claim that New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, who issued the investigation, is biased against both Apple and the MTA.

Apple to Buy a Tweet: Apple is considering a strategic investment in social media messaging company Twitter[5], according to the New York Times. The two companies have been in talks for months, but a deal has not yet been agreed on. The price tag for such an investment is rumored to be in the “hundreds of millions of dollars.” Negotiations are not on-going currently, but a partnership could still be in the works. Apple may be looking for build its own social networking system. Having a partnership with Twitter would certainly help with that.
