Starbucks Rolls Out New ‘EarthSleeve’

The greener sleeve might help save about 100,000 trees

Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) Thursday unveiled its new “EarthSleeve,” a product it says will help save about 100,000 trees.

The coffee giant partnered with LBP Manufacturing and Henkel (PINK:HENOY) to design the new greener hot-cup sleeve that’s designed to reduce the amount of materials needed to create the product.

In addition to decreases in raw material makeup, the EarthSleeve also allows for a “case cube and truckload yield improvement of 15%, reducing the overall environmental impact of the transportation of the sleeves,” Starbucks said in a press release. The product also is fully compostable.

The EarthSleeve is currently being introduced into Starbucks locations across the U.S. and Canada, and is being evaluated for global usage.
