It’s one of those stories too bizarre to be false. After all, it’s hard to imagine even creative mastermind J.J. Abrams crafting a plot that involves thieves busting through a wall to steal hair extensions. However, that’s exactly what happened Saturday.
Starting from an adjacent storefront, three Chicago thieves pounded through the walls of Don Shin’s beauty supply store to steal $230,00 worth of human hair.
“They knew what they were doing. They didn’t take any of the cheap stuff,” Shin told The Chicago Tribune. “This is an investment for me. It’s hard to find the natural hair right now, it isn’t always available. So when I have a chance, I buy it.”
It may seem odd that burglars chose to swipe hair extensions, but hair weaving is big business. The ability to wear short hair one day and then long flowing tresses the next is a hot trend among women of many ages, professions and socioeconomic positions.
