Marissa Mayer, Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) 20th employee and first female engineer, will take the helm at Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) starting Tuesday.
Mayer, who made Fortune‘s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, was most recently a vice president at Google and was responsible for the operations of the company’s local products. She also played a major role in the acquisition of Zagat.
“(I) had an amazing time at Google,” Mayer told The New York Times Dealbook blog during an interview Monday. However, she said taking the position as Yahoo’s new CEO was “a reasonably easy decision.”
It’s been a big year for the Stanford grad, who recently landed her first board seat for a public company. Mayer was appointed to Wal-Mart‘s (NYSE:WMT) 16-person board in April.
