What eight-year-old Vivienne Harr lacks in size, she makes up for in generosity, tenacity and entrepreneurship.
For more than two months, the Fairfax, Calif. resident has been operating her “Make a Stand” lemonade stand with the mission to help end human trafficking.
Harr hopes to raise at least $150,000 to fight the world slave trade. So far, her “not-for-sale” lemonade — which is all organic and made from fair-trade ingredients – has brought in more than $30,000.
In a blog post, Harr explains how her fundraising efforts have grown over the past two months.
“There I was, selling my lemonade for $2 a cup and people were happily paying it. Then, one day, I just decided that my lemonade would be Not For Sale, since kids are Not For Sale. I started saying to people: ‘It’s not for sale, because kids are not for sale. In other words: It’s free. You can give what’s in your heart.’ Would you believe the average price for a glass went up to $18? One man bought a glass for $500!”
In addition to manning her own stand, Harr wants to start a company that would help end slavery in her lifetime by bottling and selling her lemonade across the country.
