Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) social media platform Google+ is rolling out custom URLs for profiles to make it easier for users to “share their passions.” It also gives companies a better opportunity to utilize the social network.
A custom Google+ URL is similar to how Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD) set up their profile urls: short with a direct link to the person’s page or profile.
Google Product Manager Saurabh Sharma shared a few examples of customizable URLs in one of his recent Google+ posts .
“For instance, +TOYOTA can now use google.com/+toyota to unveil their latest models, +Britney Spears can share her upcoming appearances at google.com/+britneyspears, +Ubisoft can share game trailers and videos at google.com/+assassinscreed, and +Delta can help travellers find great deals at google.com/+delta.”
Currently, Google is making the custom URLs available only for a limited number of verified profiles and pages. Over time, the company plans to expand the offering to include more people and brands, Sharma wrote.
