The latest ETF Snapshot report provided by State Street (NYSE:STT[1]) asset managing division State Street Global Advisors[2] shows exchange-traded fund assets in the U.S. alone have grown to $1.2 trillion, across 1,270 funds — a 2% increase month-over-month. The chart below, provided by SSGA, shows ETF growth since 2002:

In terms of dollar volume, SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE:SPY[4]), iShares Russell 2000 (NYSE:IWM[5]) and PowerShares QQQ (NASDAQ:QQQ[6]) were the top three ETFs in July.
In terms of flow, large-cap funds like SPY led all categories with $5.6 billion of inflows. Overall, flows topped $16 billion for the month.
