A hospital thief in Uganda learned a hard lesson about karma after he stole a $23 cell phone from a dying patient.

Authorities say that the man — whose identity has not been release — became symptomatic for Ebola[1] about two weeks after he allegedly broke into an isolation ward at Kagadi Hospital and stole a cell phone from an Ebola patient, The Daily Monitor reports[2].

The theft was reported by the patient, who has since died from the deadly disease. Police had been tracking the phone, however, before the culprit was apprehended, he went to the hospital for treatment.

According to reports from the hospital, the man is receiving treatment for the illness.
