The news was first reported by Hollywood magazine US Weekly. The magazine reports the news as definite based on the word of two anonymous sources close to the show. However, at this time neither Fox nor Minaj have confirmed the story.
“[Nicki] is 100% confirmed to judge American Idol,” one source told US.
“I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it,” another insider said. “A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.”
Since most big news these days is broken via a superstar’s Twitter account, I checked out Minaj’s Twitter feed this morning and learned that the entertainer is releasing the name of her new perfume today. She has not yet tweeted about her rumored Idol chair.
Earlier this summer, former Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler bowed out from participating in the next season of the show. Legendary diva Mariah Carey was confirmed as a judge in late July, and it has been reported that Randy Jackson will remain on the show in a mentoring role, but not as a judge.
A slew of other big-name celebs are reportedly being considered for the Jackson’s seat.
