Lottery officials today confirmed that one winning ticket was sold for the third-largest Powerball Jackpot in the history of the game.
The ticket was sold Wednesday at a small Sunoco (NYSE:SUN) gas station in Lapeer, Michigan, the state’s lottery spokesperson Andi Brancato told The Detroit News.
The winning ticket is worth $337 million before taxes. The winner, who has a year to claim his/her prize, can choose between a $241 million lump sum payout or receive $337 million during the course of 30 years.
Brancato also said that the news could also be good for that gas station’s short-term sales as well as future sales of lottery tickets in Mich.
“This is enormous,” she said. “There’s a possibility that the retailer might experience a boost in sales as well. It really does a lot for the game when somebody wins a prize of this size.”
The winning numbers were 6, 27, 46, 51, 56 and Powerball 21.
