New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has reportedly launched an investigation centering on three makers of energy drinks.
A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Schneiderman sent subpoenas to PepsiCo (NYSE:PEP), Monster Beverage (NASDAQ:MNST) and Living Essentials requesting information about each company’s advertising and marketing practices regarding the beverages they tout as energy drinks.
Since caffeine is a common ingredient in most energy drinks, it is believed that Schneiderman is checking to see if the companies are correctly identifying the role the stimulant plays in producing the energy-fix consumers seek.
An official statement from Schneiderman’s office has not been rendered at this time.
