What actress Rosie O’Donnell first thought was a pulled muscle was actually a heart attack.
O’Donnell, who suffered a heart attack last week, blogged about the experience in free-verse style.
She writes that she felt pains in her chest a few hours after helping a large woman get out of a car. O’Donnell thought she “strained or pulled tissue,” but typed “women’s heart attack symptoms,” into her search engine after the pain persisted.
Even though the former talk show host had many classic heart attack symptoms (pain, nausea, clammy skin, vomiting), she thought “naaaa,” and continued about her day.
She did, however, remember something she saw on television … Bayer (PINK:BAYRY) Aspirin. The star took the pill and says she was literally “saved by a TV commercial.”
O’Donnell’s blog post about the incident morphed into a genuine PSA for women. She explained that she’s “lucky to be alive,” because the fact that she chose not to call 911, was a big mistake. The following is straight from the superstar’s blog:
“i did not call 91150% of women having heart attacks never call 911200,000 women die of heart attacksevery year in the USmy LAD was 99% blockedthey call this type of heart attackthe Widow makeri am lucky to be hereknow the symptoms ladieslisten to the voice insidethe one we all so easily ignoreCALL 911save urself”
O’Donnell is resting and has been tweeting about her recovery. She says painting and Barry Manilow music are helping her feel better.
