The rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg has changed his name to Snoop Lion after experiencing a religious awakening of sorts in Jamaica.
And he’s changed more than his moniker. He has a new religion, has switched his music style from rap to reggae and will film a documentary about it all.
The documentary, Reincarnated, shares its title with the artist’s first album under the name Snoop Lion. The feature-length film and the new reggae album will be released simultaneously, NEM reports.
Snoop said in a news conference Monday that while in Jamaica, he believes to have been connected with Bob Marley’s spirit and is now the reincarnation of the late musician. He converted to the Rastafarian religion and received his new name from a priest.
