Sony Says PlayStation Hack of 10 Million Users Didn’t Happen

The electronics company says the claim made on Wednesday is 'completely false'

An anonymous self-proclaimed hacker claimed to have breached security at Sony‘s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation Network on Wednesday.

The claim would have been a big deal for about 10 million account holders had it been true, but according to Sony, the hack was a big fat lie.

“We’ve confirmed that the recent claim that PlayStation Network was illegally hacked and that customer passwords and email addresses were accessed is completely false,” a Sony spokesperson told CVG.

The hacking hoax resurfaced bad memories for some PlayStation users. The Network was a victim of hacking in April 2011, during which time personal information from about 77 million accounts was obtained by hackers.
