Walmart (NYSE:WMT) wants to get more people to use its branded credit cards. This year, the world’s largest retailer is offering a deal people may find hard to turn down.
Consumers who use Walmart credit cards or Walmart MoneyCards at 1,000 selected gas stations in 20 states, will get a discount of 15 cents per gallon of gas they buy with the cards, Reuters noted.
The promotion starts on August 31 and runs through December 24. Walmart offered a similar discount program last year offering a 10-cent-per-gallon discount to its card users.
Gasoline prices have risen steadily in recent weeks, reaching or surpassing $4 per gallon in many areas of the country.
Even people who don’t have Walmart credit cards can get in on the deal. Consumers who purchase gasoline at participating stations using a Walmart gift card will get a 10 cents per gallon discount.
Other retailers are seeing the wisdom in offering gas discounts. Grocery chain Kroger (NYSE:KR) announced that it will maintain its summer discount campaign until the end of the year in response to strong consumer demand.
