Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) has some serious rebranding work to do in order to transform its image from dinosaur to dynamite.
Marissa Mayer, the company’s new CEO believes that Kathy Savitt is the right person to lead that monumental task and hired the Lockerz veteran as Yahoo’s chief marketing officer.
Savitt will take the reins of the marketing department from Mollie Spillman, who learned about news just ten minutes before the story broke … while she was vacationing, Business Insider reports.
It’s not unheard of for a new CEO to replace members of a company’s C-suite, but Mayer’s alleged delivery of the news to Spillman has raised a few eyebrows.
Since Spillman — who sources say was asked to continue to work at Yahoo in another capacity — was appointed to the CMO position by interim CEO Ross Levinsohn, it is possible that she knew she was going to be replaced sooner rather than later.
One indisputable fact of the situation is that Spillman’s successor wields an impressive resume.
Savitt was most recently CEO of Lockerz, a social commerce company she founded. Prior to founding Lockerz, she was executive vice president and CMO of American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO). Savitt also has held senior leadership roles at Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and was president of MWW Savitt, where she consulted with Fortune 500 clients across the globe.
