Intel (NASDAQ:INTC[1]) is attempting to limit the fallout from remarks reportedly made[2] by its CEO that criticized Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT[3]) new operating system.
According to media accounts, on Tuesday, Paul Otellini told Intel employees at a private meeting that Windows 8, which goes on sales next month, is filled with glitches and is being released before it is fully finished, ZDNet noted.
The chip-maker, and long-time Microsoft partner, put out a statement on Wednesday that called reports of the remarks “unsubstantiated.” The statement also praised the company’s working relationship with Microsoft and said the two companies had been cooperating on tests of Intel products with the new operating system.
What the Intel statement did not do was to deny that Otellini had actually made the remarks.
Sources indicated that Microsoft continues to work on Windows 8 and that a number of patches and updates will be released around the time it hits store shelves.
Today, Intel will show off a number of new Windows 8-based tablet computers at an event in San Francisco. Microsoft introduced new Windows-based tablets earlier this year[4] in a bid to compete with Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL[5]) market-dominating iPad.
Shares of Intel rose fractionally in Thursday trading, while Microsoft moved lower.
