Nintendo to Launch Wii U on November 18

Nintendo (PINK:NTDOY[1]) announced that it will launch its next generation Wii console[2], the Wii U, in the U.S. and Canada on November 18 at a press conference on Thursday in New York, Yahoo Games noted.

The new console will come in two versions.

A basic Wii U will feature a tablet-style gamepad, 8BG of memory, and HDMI cable, while a higher-end model will offer 32GB or memory, a charging cradle for the gamepad, and a stand for the console, in addition to the basic equipment. Buyers of the deluxe version will also get a copy of “Nintendoland.”

The higher-end Wii U will come in black and cost $350, while the basic unit will be white and set purchasers back $300.

While the full list of games available for the launch were not announced, Nintendo said that “Super Mario Brothers U” would be the primary launch game.

Controllers for the consoles are not included in either version and will have to be purchased separately.

That’s not likely to be an issue since the company has already sold 100 million controllers.

In June, Nintendo announced that it would create its own online network called the Miiverse[3] to rival similar online networks already in place for Sony‘s (NYSE:SNE) Playstation and Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT) XBox 360.
