Food giant General Mills (NYSE:GIS) isn’t just making headlines for its soaring profits in the most recent quarter. No, the company is also turning heads thanks to its latest marketing move: bringing back two retro brand icons.
The first is the Green Giant, who debuted in 1920s and has seen several new looks over the years. The character started as part of a campaign to get people to eat more vegetables, had been retired, but now is back at it again with an even jollier look.
The Cheerio kid is also making a comeback in a nostalgic attempt to appeal to Baby Boomers. The character is starring in a new Cheerio’s commercial where he explains to his long-time sidekick Sue that Cheerio’s can help lower cholesterol.
