A 1954 letter from Albert Einstein to philosopher Eric Gutkind[1] has sold on eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY[2]) for more than $3 million dollars.
Only two bids were received for the letter, often referred to asĀ Einstein’s “God Letter,” which was acquired four years ago from Bloomsbury Auctions by an unnamed buyer for $404,000, iO9 noted. Bidding started at $3 million. The second and winning bid was for $3,000,100.
Though Einstein often used the term “God” in his statements regarding physics, in the letter he says he doesn’t believe in the God described in the Bible, which he calls a collection of “pretty childish” legends.
Noted British evolutionary biologist and outspoken atheist Richard Dawkins had reportedly expressed interest in the letter.
The identity of the winning bidder in the eBay auction is unknown.
